The Wisdom of Stoicism, a Journey into Virtue and Resilience.
The moniker Stoicism finds its roots in the Stoa Poikile, the adorned public colonnade where Zeno and his disciples convened for contemplation. In contemporary parlance, we often employ the term ‘stoic’ to describe someone who maintains composure under pressure, steering clear of emotional extremities. While this encapsulates several pivotal facets of Stoicism, it’s imperative to acknowledge that the original philosophical framework extends beyond mere demeanor.
The Stoics, staunch advocates of a cosmic web of cause and effect, propounded the existence of a rational cosmic structure termed ‘logos,’ which underpins the functioning of everything in our surroundings. Although we might lack dominion over external events, we retain mastery over our responses. Rather than conjuring utopian ideals, Stoicism advocates for engaging with the world’s reality while cultivating self-improvement through the prism of four cardinal virtues.
